Istanbul Street Style: Where East Meets West

I love spending an afternoon sitting at a cafe near bosphorus, looking at the beautiful view that both inspires and relaxes me. When was the last time you sat down at a coffee shop and just read a book or people watched? I always remind myself what a beautiful and culture-infused city it is that I live in; the vibrant fashion scene in Istanbul is just the cherry on top.

As a city that sits on two continents and has been the focal point of three different empires, Istanbul’s fashion, too is far from being stable and boring. With the launch of Vogue Turkey and Istanbul Fashion Week in recent years, the city is quickly becoming a hub for emerging designers such as Hakan Yıldırım , and Hussein Chalayan who have showed at both London and Paris Fashion Week respectively.

The people of Istanbul have a unique sense of style, whether it’s mixing current trends, vintage or Avante Garde, their individualism always comes through in dynamic blend of Eastern heritage and Western influences. One such influence is the vintage movement,  which has recently come into it’s own here in Istanbul. Some of my favourite vintage finds are from shops around Cukurcuma and Cihangir located on the backstreets of Istiklal, Taksim.
